I canceled my Amazon Prime two months ago. This is the second time I’ve done it. I canceled in 2023 and was doing well without it, but then the month of my wedding arrived and suddenly we needed a lot of things relatively last minute. So I get it, the convenience of Amazon is undeniable. But so is the damage it’s doing to our world.

I’m not going to go into scientific evidence on climate change caused by Amazon or anything like that. Not my expertise. I’m just a comedy writer by trade who can’t stop thinking about the fact that we are all so mad at billionaires right now and yet… we all keep giving them our money. Not just massive one off purchases like the vehicles we drive everyday, but annual subscriptions to their service and a promise to buy everything we can think of off their website.

I know most people’s first reaction to the thought of canceling their Amazon Prime subscription is “How will I get my stuff? Where will I find my things? And who will deliver it to me within 24 hours?”

And I get it. I have been lured into complacency by the luxury of being able to find practically anything I can think of on one website, order it, and have it at…
